"Do I need to feel sorry in order to fall in love?" is an ongoing photographic project that delves into my personal experience of living in Belgrade, with my Serbian husband and his family during the winter months. Over the years, I have documented our daily life and the unique brutalist architecture of their neighborhood. However, this year, something has changed.

Belgrade is undergoing a period of significant political and social change. For the past two months, student demonstrations have filled the streets and squares, fueled by the hope of breaking free from a corrupt and authoritarian government. The city's landscape is also transforming dramatically, with the demolition of the iconic Hotel Jugoslavija, the construction of the controversial Belgrade Waterfront, and the closure of floating bars along the river.

My personal life now serves as a backdrop to these larger events unfolding in Belgrade. The project explores themes of love, family, identity, and the search for belonging in a city undergoing rapid transformation.
